About this sound

The classic ba dum tss drum sting used after jokes and bad puns. It is a short rimshot-style sound effect people add for comedic timing and awkward punchlines.

This sound is the familiar ba dum tss comedy sting, a quick drum flourish that mimics the feel of a live rimshot after a joke lands, or fails to land. It usually sounds like a low drum hit followed by a crisp cymbal crash, creating an instant cue for punchline energy. Viewers immediately read it as irony, corny humor, or self-aware embarrassment. Because it is so short and recognizable, it works well in memes, reaction edits, and clips where a joke needs an extra beat to sell the laugh.

The ba dum tss sound is a long-standing comedy cue modeled on a drummer's rimshot used to underline jokes in live performance. Online, it spread widely through meme edits, short videos, and reaction clips because the meaning is instantly understood even without context. Creators still use it because it signals both punchline and cringe at the same time. It often appears alongside exaggerated meme sounds such as the vine boom sound or the ding sound effect when editors want a more layered gag.

It is a short comedy drum sting, often described as a rimshot-style hit, used right after a joke or pun. In edits, it signals that a punchline just happened, especially when the humor is intentionally cheesy or awkward.

Where does the Ba Dum Tss joke sound come from?

The sound is based on the classic live-comedy rimshot tradition, where a drummer accents a comedian's punchline. The exact clip on a soundboard may vary, but the format comes from stage and TV comedy timing rather than one single meme source.

How do people use the Ba Dum Tss sound in videos?

Creators drop it after a one-liner, obvious pun, or self-own to make the moment feel knowingly corny. It is especially common in short meme edits, reaction posts, and skits that pause for comedic effect before the sting hits.
