About this sound

A 16-second excerpt from Vicetone's Astronomia remix, known as the Coffin Dance meme, used in edits about comic failures, ominous turns, and disaster.

This clip captures the driving electronic hook associated with the Coffin Dance meme. Bright, repeating synth notes ride over a firm dance beat, creating a strangely upbeat soundtrack for something going disastrously wrong. In meme edits, the music often arrives when a stunt fails, danger becomes obvious, or a bad decision reaches its consequence. The contrast between the energetic melody and the suggestion of doom gives viewers a quick punchline before the famous dancing-pallbearer imagery even appears. Its compact length suits reaction videos, gaming mishaps, and abrupt visual cutaways.

The meme combines footage of Ghanaian pallbearers dancing while carrying coffins with Vicetone's remix of Astronomia, an electronic track by Tony Igy. The remix was released in 2014, while the dance footage circulated online before the format surged globally in 2020. Editors paired an impending accident or foolish decision with the dancers to imply a fatal outcome without showing it. The recognizable synth melody and simple setup helped the format cross language barriers, and it remains shorthand for comic doom, spectacular failure, and consequences arriving on cue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Astronomia Coffin Dance sound?

It is a short excerpt from Vicetone's remix of Tony Igy's electronic track Astronomia. Online, the melody is strongly associated with the Coffin Dance meme and its footage of dancing Ghanaian pallbearers.

Why is Astronomia used in the Coffin Dance meme?

The upbeat electronic melody creates a darkly comic contrast with scenes suggesting danger or disaster. Editors use its recognizable opening as a punchline after failed stunts, reckless choices, gaming mistakes, and moments when consequences become inevitable.

How should the Coffin Dance sound be used in an edit?

Add it immediately after the key mistake or reveal, preferably on a freeze-frame, slow-motion shot, or sudden cut. Let the opening synth phrase remain clear so viewers recognize the joke without needing the pallbearer footage.
