A short clip of Shrek saying "Why?" from the Shrek movies, used as a confused or dramatic reaction in memes, edits and awkward punchlines.

This sound is a brief voice clip of Shrek delivering a drawn-out, frustrated "Why?" in his recognizable Scottish-accented ogre voice. The line lands somewhere between confusion, disbelief and comic suffering, which makes it work well as a reaction sound. Because the clip is under three seconds, it fits neatly after a bad decision, a sudden fail or an obviously doomed moment. Viewers instantly get the joke if they know the character, and even without context the delivery sells the emotion clearly.

This clip is associated with Shrek, the green ogre from DreamWorks' Shrek films, and it circulates online as a quick reaction sound. Short Shrek quotes have stayed popular in meme culture for years because the character is instantly recognizable and his voice delivery is easy to repurpose. This "Why?" sound is commonly used in TikToks, gaming edits and reaction videos to underline confusion, annoyance or mock despair. It also pairs naturally with other Shrek meme audio such as what are you doing in my swamp.
