The iconic Keyboard Cat piano meme clip, based on the famous cat-at-keyboard video, used to play off fails, awkward endings and goofy edits.

This sound is the classic Keyboard Cat piano riff associated with the famous cat pawing at a keyboard. It has a light, bouncy melody that instantly gives a clip a silly, old-internet feel. Creators use it as a comedic button after a fail, an awkward moment or a sudden cut, because the tune feels like a playful send-off. Even on its own, the clip is recognizable within seconds and carries that nostalgic meme energy people associate with early viral videos.

Keyboard Cat comes from the viral video of Fatso, a cat filmed by Charlie Schmidt in the 1980s wearing a blue shirt and appearing to play a keyboard. The clip was uploaded online in 2007 and became widely known through the “play him off” format, where it followed bloopers, wipeouts and embarrassing moments. It remains popular because the jaunty tune and visual gag are instantly readable, making it one of the defining early internet meme sounds.
