Belt the sloth makes his dramatic warning call in The Croods, a short movie sound people use for reveals, danger cues, and comic suspense online.

This short clip captures Belt, the three-toed sloth from The Croods, giving his familiar dramatic warning call. The vocal burst rises like a tiny suspense sting, turning an approaching problem or sudden discovery into a joke. Because Belt is small and expressive, the exaggerated sound feels both urgent and adorable. It instantly signals that something ominous, surprising, or absurd is about to happen, making it effective as a quick reaction cue in edits and meme videos. Its compact timing also leaves the visual punchline room to land cleanly.

Belt is a supporting character in DreamWorks Animation’s 2013 film The Croods. The sloth serves as Guy’s companion and is voiced by filmmaker Chris Sanders. His theatrical danger signal became one of the character’s recognizable comic traits. Short excerpts circulate in reaction edits because the call works without dialogue or setup: punctuation for a reveal, an awkward pause, or impending chaos. The film’s continued popularity keeps Belt’s distinctive vocal cue familiar to family animation audiences.
