이 사운드에 대하여

An eerie waterphone sound effect with metallic, wobbling tones, often heard in horror movies and suspense edits for creepy reveals.

This clip features the unsettling sound of a waterphone, an acoustic instrument known for its metallic shrieks, bending tones and ghostly resonance. The sound usually starts with a thin, ringing scrape or strike, then blooms into an unstable wobble that feels tense and unnatural. It instantly gives a scene a creepy, suspenseful mood, which is why editors use it for horror setups, ominous reveals and moments where something feels off. Even in short form, the sound creates dread fast and makes viewers expect a scare or sudden twist.

The waterphone is a real experimental acoustic instrument invented by Richard Waters in the late 1960s. Its eerie, detuned resonance became a familiar sound in horror and thriller sound design, especially in film and television. Online, short waterphone clips spread because they create instant suspense with almost no setup. Creators still use them in memes, haunted house edits and fake scare videos because the sound is recognizable, dramatic and effective even when the joke is obvious.

자주 묻는 질문

What is a waterphone sound?

A waterphone sound is the eerie metallic tone made by a real instrument called the waterphone. It produces unstable, haunting pitches that are commonly used to create tension, suspense and horror atmosphere in films, videos and memes.

Why is the waterphone used in horror edits?

Editors use the waterphone because it sounds unnatural and unsettling almost immediately. Its scraping, wobbling resonance makes viewers feel that something is wrong, so it works well before a scare, a reveal or an ominous moment.

Is this clip music or a sound effect?

It is usually treated as a sound effect in editing, even though it comes from a musical instrument. Most creators use short waterphone hits or scrapes as tension stingers rather than as part of a melody or full musical passage.
