In edits, it usually lands as a fast punchline after a reveal, awkward moment or intentionally over-the-top reaction. Because it is short and weirdly memorable, it works best when the humor comes from the sudden sound match rather than from a long setup.

This sound is known online as the “ultra gay” or “ultra gay seal” clip, a viral animal sound shared on soundboards, short meme edits and repost pages. Its appeal comes from pareidolia: people hear speech-like words in a real seal cry, then reuse that mishearing as the joke. It continues to circulate because it is extremely short, instantly recognizable to meme-heavy audiences and easy to drop into reaction-style videos alongside other absurd punchline sounds like anime ahh.
