The sharp violin stab from Psycho, famous from the shower scene. People use this sound effect for jump scares, creepy reveals and horror meme edits.

This clip is the classic high-pitched violin screech associated with Psycho, the sound most people instantly connect to the film's shower scene. It cuts in fast, feels sharp and nervous, and creates an immediate sense of panic, shock or danger. Even in a very short burst, it tells viewers that something creepy or alarming just happened. That makes it a go-to reaction sound for horror jokes, sudden zooms, fake scares and edits where you want a dramatic, unsettling sting instead of a long scream.

This sound refers to the famous stabbing-style violin motif from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, released in 1960, with music by Bernard Herrmann. Over time, the screech became shorthand for horror across film, TV and internet edits, even for people who have never seen the movie. Online, creators use it as an instantly recognizable cue for danger, paranoia and sudden shock. Its staying power comes from how quickly a single sharp hit can transform an ordinary moment into something tense, eerie or darkly funny.
