Patrick Star says “firmly grasp it” in SpongeBob SquarePants before pushing a jellyfishing net into Squidward’s injured hand, ideal for painful fail edits.

This short voice clip captures Patrick Star confidently instructing Squidward to “firmly grasp it” while trying to place a jellyfishing net in his bandaged hand. Patrick’s calm, matter-of-fact delivery clashes with the obviously painful situation that follows, giving the line its dark slapstick humor. The audio creates instant anticipation because viewers familiar with the scene know that Patrick’s misguided help is about to make everything worse. In edits, it works as a setup for rough handling, terrible advice, awkward demonstrations, or any solution that causes a bigger problem.

The line comes from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Jellyfishing,” first broadcast in 1999. Patrick Star says it while attempting to help an injured Squidward hold a jellyfishing net, turning a simple instruction into a painful visual gag. The scene later circulated widely through reaction images, captioned clips, remixes, and short-form video edits. Its continued appeal comes from the contrast between Patrick’s absolute confidence and his disastrously unhelpful action, making the phrase recognizable shorthand for forceful solutions and misguided advice.
