The terrifying scream of the possessed girl from The Exorcist, used as a jump scare sound effect in horror edits, prank videos and scary reaction clips.

This is a short, piercing scream from the possessed girl in The Exorcist, rising suddenly from a low growl into a high, ragged shriek that sounds raw, desperate and inhuman. The voice cracks and strains as it climbs, making it feel less like acting and more like a genuine moment of terror. Because the sound arrives without warning and fills the whole clip, it instantly creates tension, shock and dread, even for listeners who have never seen the film. It is the kind of scream that makes people flinch, look away or laugh nervously after the scare has passed.

The Exorcist, released in 1973, remains one of the most influential horror films ever made, centred on the possession of a young girl, Regan MacNeil. Her screams and distorted voice became shorthand for demonic horror and are still quoted in parodies, trailers and Halloween edits decades later. Online, short clips from the film were repurposed as scare videos and soundboard sounds, where a single scream could startle a viewer without any context. That instant recognition is why creators still reach for it whenever they need a fast, unmistakable horror shock.
