The iconic opening guitar riff from Jimi Hendrix's 1967 classic Purple Haze. Drop it under trippy edits, rock montages and retro transitions.

Purple Haze is one of the most recognisable guitar intros in rock history: a slinky, fuzz-drenched riff built on tritone intervals that sounds at once menacing and playful. The clip captures those first seconds of controlled chaos — bent notes, a swaggering groove and Hendrix's signature searing tone. Played in full, it lands with instant attitude, so even a five-second snippet is enough to signal vintage cool, rebellion or a mind-bending moment in an edit. It is short, punchy and impossible to mistake for anything else.

Purple Haze was written by Jimi Hendrix and released in 1967 as a single by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, later appearing on the US edition of Are You Experienced. Its opening riff, built on unsettling tritone intervals and the E7#9 voicing now nicknamed the Hendrix chord, became one of rock's most imitated guitar moments. The track helped define psychedelic rock and cemented Hendrix's reputation as an innovator. Decades later the riff still circulates online in guitar tutorials, rock compilations and meme edits, instantly signalling classic rock attitude.
