A short lead jammer sound effect from roller derby, marking the skater who breaks the pack first and earns the power to call off the jam early.

A lead jammer call is a short, official roller derby sound that signals one jammer has broken through the pack ahead of the other and taken control of the jam. Delivered in a clear, clipped style over the noise of skates, hits and crowd reaction, it instantly tells players and viewers who is now in the driving seat. Because that status lets the skater decide when to end the jam, the moment carries real tactical weight. Heard out of context in edited clips, it works as a punchy marker for taking the lead, seizing momentum and calling the next move on your own terms.

In roller derby, each jam features one jammer per team wearing a star helmet cover and trying to lap the opposing blockers to score. The first jammer to pass the pack cleanly and legally is designated lead jammer, a status the skater can use to end the jam early by calling it off. That tactical quirk has made the phrase part of the sport's everyday language at rinks and on bout broadcasts, and online it has carried over into short edits where taking the lead is the whole point of the clip.
