JonTron shouts what was that in a startled comedic reaction from his gaming videos, used by creators to flag sudden surprises, glitches and unexpected moments.

This short clip captures JonTron reacting with sudden disbelief, his voice jumping up in pitch as he blurts out the question after something unexpected happens on screen. The delivery is loud, fast and theatrical, with a sharp emphasis that makes the confusion feel bigger than the moment itself. It works because it mirrors exactly how a viewer feels when a game glitch, a jump scare or a bizarre edit appears out of nowhere. Dropped into a video, it instantly breaks the tension, signals that something weird just happened and gives the audience a shared laugh before the scene moves on.

JonTron, the YouTube comedy series hosted by Jonathan Jafari, built its following on exaggerated reactions to strange and nostalgic video games. Short, expressive lines from his videos became popular reaction clips because they translate easily to other contexts, and this startled question is one of the most reusable. It spread through soundboards, meme edits and gaming videos, where creators use it as shorthand for genuine confusion. Its appeal has lasted because the delivery is instantly recognisable and needs no setup to land.
