The laugh of Joaquim Barbosa, former president of Brazil's Supreme Court (STF), in a short clip used as the reaction sound for funny moments.

This is the unmistakable laugh of Joaquim Barbosa, the former justice and president of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court, bottled into a clip barely a second and a half long. It is a deep, hearty, slightly mischievous chuckle that lands with the warmth of someone who has just heard the perfect joke. The recording is raw and close, with no music or effects, so the laugh itself does all the work. Dropping it over a funny moment instantly gives the scene a knowing, conspiratorial wink, the kind of reaction that makes viewers laugh along before they even know why.

Joaquim Barbosa served as a justice of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court from 2003 to 2014, presiding over it from 2012 to 2014, and became a national figure during the Mensalão corruption trial. His sharp courtroom style and unmistakable laugh made him a fixture of Brazilian television news, and clips of his chuckle began circulating as a meme, shared on WhatsApp and soundboards as the definitive reaction to something funny or ironic. Years after his retirement, the laugh endures as a piece of Brazilian internet culture.
