Fernando Alonso's frustrated F1 team radio rant calling his McLaren Honda a GP2 engine, used in memes and video edits to mock slow or weak performance.

This clip captures Fernando Alonso venting over team radio during a Formula 1 race, his voice rising from disbelief to exasperation as he repeats that his car feels like it has a GP2 engine before letting out a frustrated scream. The audio is raw and unfiltered, with the roar of the race car underneath his words, which makes the frustration feel immediate and unscripted. Listeners instantly recognise the mix of sarcasm, anger and disbelief, and that blunt honesty is why the moment lands so well in edits, turning a serious racing complaint into a punchy reaction for anything that feels embarrassingly slow or outclassed.

The line comes from Fernando Alonso's team radio at the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, when he was driving for McLaren-Honda and struggling with a lack of straight-line speed. His comparison of the Formula 1 power unit to a GP2 engine, the feeder series below Formula 1, instantly summed up the team's problems and was replayed across race broadcasts and highlight reels. It later became a staple of Formula 1 meme culture, reused whenever a car, game or gadget feels dramatically slower than it should be.
