The cracking head-spin sound from The Exorcist (1973), a quick bone-crack twist used for shocking reveals, plot twists and horror meme edits.

This is the infamous head-spin moment from The Exorcist, condensed into just over a second of pure shock. You hear a rapid, sickening series of bone cracks as the head whips a full 360 degrees, dry and percussive with no music underneath. It lands instantly because almost everyone recognizes the reference, even out of context. Played over a reaction clip or an edit, it turns a normal face into something possessed and wrong, creating a jolt of horror-comedy that works precisely because it is so brief and so visually implied by the audio alone.

The head spin comes from The Exorcist, released in 1973 and directed by William Friedkin, based on William Peter Blatty's novel. In the film's climax, the possessed Regan MacNeil turns her head completely around, a practical effect that became one of horror cinema's most quoted images. Clipped to just the cracking audio, it spread through online compilations, short-form scares and meme edits in the 2010s as shorthand for possession or a mind snapping. It endures because the film remains a cultural touchstone for demonic horror.
