The EAS alarm tone from weather warnings and broadcast tests, a sharp burst that creators use to warn of storms, danger, or a sudden emergency.

This is the short, piercing tone broadcasters play before a weather warning or an emergency alert test, instantly recognisable from television and radio. It consists of sharp, high-pitched beeps that cut through background noise and demand immediate attention, even in a clip lasting less than a second. The sound carries a sense of urgency and official authority, making listeners brace for bad news, severe weather, or something going wrong. Because almost everyone has heard it during real storms or scheduled tests, it triggers an automatic feeling of alarm, tension, and curiosity about what will happen next.

The tone comes from the Emergency Alert System used by broadcasters in the United States to interrupt programmes for weather warnings, civil emergencies, and regular system tests. Its distinctive attention signal was designed to be impossible to ignore, which is why it became familiar to anyone who watches television or listens to radio during severe weather. Online, creators began reusing short clips of the tone as shorthand for danger, disaster, or an urgent announcement, and it remains popular because that real-world association gives even a brief meme an immediate sense of seriousness.
