The desk pop sound from the 2010 comedy The Other Guys, a short punchy pop used in edits and memes for a sudden reveal, joke landing or awkward office moment.

This clip captures the desk pop from The Other Guys, a short, sharp percussive pop that lands like a tiny explosion on a desktop. It opens with a brief build of office-room energy before the pop itself cuts through cleanly, making it feel sudden, cheeky and deliberately over-the-top for such a small action. The humour comes from that contrast: an ordinary desk moment given the punch of a stunt. Played at full volume, it works as a comic punctuation mark, signalling that something silly, smug or unexpectedly confident has just happened in the scene.

The desk pop comes from The Other Guys, the 2010 buddy-cop comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as New York detectives. The gag turns an office desk into the punchline, which is why the clip travelled well beyond the film. Once it reached soundboards and short-form video, editors began using it as shorthand for smug confidence, a petty victory or an awkward workplace boast. Its appeal has lasted because the sound is instantly recognisable without needing the scene, and because everyone knows the feeling of making a small moment feel far bigger than it is.

Creators usually place it on a reveal, reaction or small victory, often with a zoom or deadpan expression. It works best once, at the exact moment of the joke, rather than repeated throughout a video.
