CJ's falling scream from GTA San Andreas, a long panicked yell creators use for fails, drops and over the top reaction moments in funny video edits.

This is CJ letting out a drawn-out, panicked scream as he falls, shrill at the start and trailing off as the drop continues. The voice cracks with real urgency, which is what makes it funny when it is pasted over something much less dangerous. Viewers instantly read it as pure terror before any impact happens, so the tension builds for a few seconds and then lands as a joke. It works because the fear sounds genuine while the situation it is used in is usually completely ridiculous and low stakes.

The scream comes from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, released in 2004, where protagonist Carl Johnson, known as CJ, yells when falling from a height or taking fatal damage. Players heard it repeatedly during chaotic missions and stunt attempts, and the clip later spread through YouTube edits, gaming compilations and soundboards. Its length sets it apart from shorter reaction screams, giving editors time to build a gag around a fall. It remains a staple shorthand for exaggerated panic in gaming videos.

What is the CJ scream sound?

It is the long, panicked yell made by Carl Johnson, known as CJ, in GTA San Andreas when he falls from a height. The scream lasts several seconds, starts high and urgent, and trails off, which makes it easy to layer over falling or failing moments.

Where is the CJ scream from?

The sound comes from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the 2004 Rockstar game set in Los Santos and the wider state of San Andreas. It plays in game when CJ falls, crashes badly or takes damage that is about to kill him during missions and free roam.

How do people use the CJ scream in videos?

Creators place it over falls, failed jumps, car crashes and panicked escapes so a small mistake feels dramatic. It works best when the scream starts just before the drop, runs without music underneath, and cuts off sharply the moment the character lands or hits something.
