Rick Grimes shouting Carl from The Walking Dead, a short dramatic voice clip used in memes and edits to call out a friend or react to trouble.

This is a one-second voice clip of Rick Grimes urgently calling out his son Carl, delivered in the strained, desperate tone that made the moment a lasting Walking Dead meme. The single shouted name lands suddenly, with no music or background noise to soften it, so it feels like a warning rather than a greeting. Viewers instantly recognise the panic and parental worry behind it, which is why it works so well as a punchline. Dropped into a video, it turns an ordinary mistake, a risky decision, or a friend wandering off into a dramatic rescue scene, making the joke feel bigger and more urgent than the footage alone.

Rick Grimes is the lead character of The Walking Dead, the television drama based on the comic series of the same name, and Carl Grimes is his son. Rick's urgent calls for Carl became one of the show's most recognisable vocal moments, and short clips of the shout spread through fan edits, reaction videos and meme pages. The name is also joked about because many viewers hear it as Coral, which helped the clip travel beyond fans of the show. It remains useful because a shouted name instantly signals danger, worry and a parent trying to stop something bad happening.

What is the Carl Rick Grimes sound?

It is a one-second voice clip of Rick Grimes shouting his son Carl's name in a panicked, urgent tone. The clip captures the character's worry and is widely used as a dramatic reaction or punchline in memes and short videos.

Where is the Carl sound from?

The sound comes from The Walking Dead, where Rick Grimes is the father of Carl Grimes. Rick calls for Carl during tense and dangerous scenes, and fans later clipped the shout because its delivery is instantly recognisable and easy to reuse.

Why do people hear Coral instead of Carl?

Many viewers mishear Rick's Southern-tinged pronunciation of Carl as Coral, which became a running joke among Walking Dead fans. The mishearing made the clip more shareable, even for people who had never watched the show.
