The 'I can't believe it's not butter' line from the classic margarine ads, used as a reaction sound for surprising reveals, taste tests and fake-out moments.

This is the instantly recognizable catchphrase 'I can't believe it's not butter,' delivered as a short burst of wide-eyed disbelief. The voice lands somewhere between genuine amazement and playful exaggeration, stretching the words just enough to sell the surprise. Hearing it, a viewer immediately pictures someone tasting something unexpectedly good and blurting out the verdict. Dropped over a reveal, it turns an ordinary moment into a punchline, making the audience grin at the sheer theatricality of the reaction. It is short, quotable and impossible to hear without smiling.

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! is a real margarine brand launched in the United States in 1979, and its name doubled as the punchline of its television advertising. The ads, including a long-running 1990s campaign fronted by Fabio Lanzoni, hammered the slogan until it became a pop-culture catchphrase for mock astonishment. Online, the line escaped its commercial roots and now joins the ranks of classic reaction clips such as oh my god, wow, deployed whenever something turns out surprisingly better, or stranger, than expected.
