このサウンドについて

Short clip of the Bastille lyric 'but if you close your eyes' from Pompeii, widely used in memes and edits for sudden contrast, nostalgia, or fake dramatic reveals.

This sound is a brief excerpt of the line "but if you close your eyes" sung from the song Pompeii by Bastille. Even in a very short clip, it has a big, cinematic feel, with a rising vocal delivery that sounds reflective and dramatic at the same time. In memes and short edits, people use it right before a reveal, comparison, or ironic cut to make an ordinary moment feel strangely emotional. It works especially well when the visuals shift from chaos to something that almost looks meaningful for a second.

This clip comes from "Pompeii" by the English band Bastille, released in 2013. The lyric became a recognizable meme audio online because its dramatic tone fits edits built around irony, nostalgia, and sudden visual contrast. Short versions spread across meme compilations, reposts, and vertical video platforms, where creators used the line as a setup for an emotional fake-out or a surprisingly clean transition. It is still used because the phrase is instantly familiar and the melody gives even simple clips a bigger, more cinematic feeling.
