Blister sound effect from the horror game Outlast, a short unsettling clip creators use for jumpscares, creepy scenes, and tense gaming edits.

This is a short, harsh horror clip associated with Outlast and its Variants, built around a raw, distressed texture that feels wet, close and wrong. It plays less like a clean effect and more like something organic breaking through the mix, which is why it lands instantly as danger. In an edit it needs almost no setup, a quiet frame and then this sound is enough to make viewers tense up, expect a chase or a jumpscare, and read the scene as unsafe even before anything appears on screen.

Outlast is a first-person survival horror game released in 2013 by Red Barrels, set inside Mount Massive Asylum and driven by its violent inmates, known as Variants. Clips from the game circulate widely on soundboards because the audio design relies on sudden, bodily, unpleasant textures rather than music. This Blister clip is shared in that same horror-editing context, alongside sounds like the FNAF Jumpscare Scream, as a quick way to borrow Outlast's atmosphere of panic and infection for gameplay videos, memes and short horror edits online today.

What is the Blister sound?

The Blister sound is a short horror effect linked to Outlast and its Variants. It has a harsh, organic texture lasting about five seconds, and creators use it to create instant unease, jumpscare tension or a sense of infection in an edit.

Where is the Blister sound from?

It is tagged from Outlast, the 2013 first-person survival horror game by Red Barrels set in Mount Massive Asylum. The game is known for its Variants, the asylum inmates who drive most of its chases, scares and disturbing audio moments throughout the story.

How do creators use the Blister sound?

Creators place it on a sudden cut, a doorway reveal or a quiet moment before a chase. Keeping the audio before it silent makes the texture hit harder, while overusing it or adding loud music underneath usually weakens the shock effect.
