The dramatic announcement that a new challenger has arrived, made famous by Super Smash Bros. Creators use it to reveal a character, guest or surprise twist.

The clip opens with a swelling, dramatic fanfare before a deep announcer voice declares that a new challenger has appeared, building tension like the moment before a boss fight or a surprise entrance. The music rises, pauses for impact, then lands with a confident flourish that makes the reveal feel important, even when the newcomer is completely ordinary. That contrast is why it works so well in edits: viewers instantly recognise the fighting-game cue, expect something epic, and laugh or lean in when the challenger is a friend, a pet, or an everyday object stepping into frame.

The line comes from fighting games, where it announces an unexpected opponent stepping in to challenge the player, and it became closely associated with Super Smash Bros., where players hear a similar cue when a new fighter can be unlocked. As clips spread through YouTube, TikTok and gaming streams, creators began using it far beyond gameplay, turning any entrance into a mock showdown. It endures because the format is instantly understood: a build-up, a reveal, and a challenger who may be heroic, ridiculous, or completely unexpected.

The phrase comes from fighting games, most famously Super Smash Bros., where a challenger appears as an unlockable opponent. The sound became a meme as creators reused the cue for everyday entrances and surprise reveals online.

Place it just before someone or something enters the frame, then cut to the reveal on the final beat. It works best for one clear entrance, such as a friend, pet, new character or unexpected guest.
