The retching and vomiting sound associated with Full Metal Jacket, used in memes and edits for gross-out reactions, failed challenges and moments of disgust.

This short clip captures a loud, wet bout of retching that builds into unmistakable vomiting, with heaving breaths, gagging and splashing sounds that leave little to the imagination. It is raw and deliberately unpleasant, which is exactly why it lands so hard in comedy edits: the listener recognises the bodily reaction instantly, even without seeing a picture. Dropped at the right moment, it turns a bad taste, a failed dare or an awkward reveal into an exaggerated physical punchline, making the audience wince, laugh and look away at the same time.

This clip is linked to Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick's 1987 war film, where harsh boot camp training and physical breakdown are central to the story. The vomiting sound has since circulated on soundboards as a standalone reaction clip, separate from any single scene, because it is instantly recognisable as disgust without needing dialogue or context. Meme editors and streamers keep returning to it for food challenges, pranks and fail compilations, where a short, visceral reaction does more work than a caption or a spoken joke.

Where does the Pukes sound come from?

It is associated with Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick's 1987 war film, and is shared online as a standalone soundboard clip. The exact scene is less important to most users than the instantly recognisable vomiting reaction itself.

How do creators use the Pukes sound in videos?

They place it right after a bad taste, prank reveal or failed challenge to exaggerate disgust. It works best in short bursts with a reaction face, and creators usually avoid playing the full clip repeatedly.
