The eerie US game over music from Sonic CD, a short creepy cue players use in memes, horror edits and fake-out jumpscare videos.

This clip is the unsettling American game over theme from Sonic CD, a brief piece of distorted, off-kilter music that feels far darker than most Sonic audio. Instead of a normal fail sting, it drifts in with warped tones and an uneasy mood that can catch listeners off guard. That contrast is exactly why people remember it. In videos, it works as a sudden tonal switch from playful to ominous, giving a scene a cursed, retro-horror vibe without needing a loud scream or long build-up.

This sound comes from the USA version of Sonic CD, released for Sega CD in the early 1990s, and it became infamous among fans for how strange its game over music feels compared with the series' usual upbeat style. Over time, uploads and reaction posts helped the track spread beyond the game itself. It is still used because the short cue instantly signals something is wrong, making it useful for ironic horror edits, retro gaming jokes, and even light jumpscare setups similar to a fnaf jumpscare scream.
