A loud, bass-boosted and distorted version of the classic Skype incoming call ringtone, used as a sudden earrape joke in memes and video edits.

This clip takes the familiar Skype incoming call tone and pushes it through heavy bass boosting and distortion until it sounds blown out, crackling and far louder than the original. The once polite ringing melody becomes a harsh, buzzing burst that clips and rattles, instantly grabbing attention because listeners recognise the tune underneath the noise. Played at full volume it feels startling and comically overpowered, turning a simple notification into a jump scare moment. That contrast between a mundane call sound and its earrape treatment is what makes it funny, especially when it cuts in unexpectedly over quiet footage.

The original tone comes from Skype, the video calling app whose default incoming call ringtone became instantly recognisable to millions of internet users during the era of desktop video chats. As meme culture grew, creators began remixing familiar notification sounds into loud earrape versions, boosting the bass and distorting the audio until it sounded intentionally broken. This version follows that trend, keeping just enough of the original melody to be identified while turning it into a shock sound for edits, pranks and soundboards.

What is the Skype Call Distorted sound?

It is a bass-boosted, heavily distorted edit of the classic Skype incoming call ringtone. The melody is still recognisable, but the audio is clipped, louder and intentionally harsh for comedic effect.

Where does the original Skype ringtone come from?

It comes from Skype, the video calling app, where it played as the default sound for an incoming call. Its simple, familiar melody made it widely recognised by people who used desktop video chats.

Why do creators use the distorted version in memes?

Creators use it for surprise and contrast, dropping a loud, blown-out ring into quiet footage or a fake call scene. The joke works because viewers recognise the normal tone underneath the distortion.
