JDG’s menacing “agrou grou” growl from Joueur du Grenier, the French retro-gaming YouTube duo. A short villain voice clip for memes, edits and gaming reactions.

This is the comedic villain growl performed by JDG, the French YouTube duo behind Joueur du Grenier. In a low, gravelly voice he snarls “agrou grou” like a cartoon monster about to pounce, stretching the syllables with mock menace for about two and a half seconds. It sounds deliberately over the top, more silly than scary, with a guttural rumble that lands like a punchline. Viewers hear it as the audio equivalent of a villain rubbing his hands together, and it instantly turns whoever it is attached to into the bad guy of the scene.

JDG is short for Joueur du Grenier, the French YouTube channel created by Frédéric Molas and Sébastien Rassiat, famous since 2009 for its loud, theatrical reviews of retro video games. The duo peppers its episodes with improvised voices and catchphrases, and the guttural “agrou grou” villain growl is one of those throwaway bits that fans clipped and passed around. French soundboards and meme pages picked it up as a ready-made bad-guy sting, and it survives today as a quick way to brand any character, player or pet as the lovable villain of the moment.

Who is JDG?

JDG stands for Joueur du Grenier, a French YouTube duo made up of Frédéric Molas and Sébastien Rassiat. Since 2009 they have reviewed retro video games with loud sketches, improvised voices and running gags that fans love to clip.

What does “agrou grou” mean?

It does not mean anything in French; it is a made-up monster growl, the kind of guttural snarl a cartoon villain makes. JDG performs it in a mock-menacing voice, and the humor comes from how seriously he sells the silliness.

How do creators use this sound?

Editors drop it the moment a villain, boss or betrayer appears, often under a zoom or a red flash, to brand that character as the bad guy. It also works as a playful sting when a friend or pet gets caught misbehaving.
