A short pew pew laser sound effect that mimics a sci-fi blaster firing. People use it for playful shootouts, gaming edits, and fun meme videos.

The pew pew sound is a quick, high pitched imitation of a laser blaster firing, lasting less than a second. It has a sharp, cartoonish zap that rises and falls in a playful way rather than sounding like a real weapon. Because it is so exaggerated and instantly recognisable, it turns any pretend shootout into a joke. Viewers hear it and immediately understand someone is play acting a sci fi battle, which makes even a serious looking clip feel light, silly, and harmless.

Pew pew is an onomatopoeia people have long used to imitate futuristic laser weapons in play, comics, and cartoons. Online, the short clip became a reusable sound effect for videos because it captures that imitation in under a second, with no dialogue or music to compete with. Creators place it over toys, pets, and everyday objects to suggest blaster fire without any realistic gun sound. Its popularity comes from that contrast, and it remains common in gaming edits, parody battles, and reaction clips where a harmless sci fi joke is needed.

The pew pew sound is a very short imitation of a laser blaster firing. It lasts less than a second and has a cartoonish, high pitched zap. People use it as a sound effect to make pretend shootouts look playful rather than serious.

Where is the pew pew sound from?

The sound is based on the spoken words pew pew, an onomatopoeia for futuristic laser fire used in play and cartoons for decades. This short clip is a clean, reusable version of that imitation, widely shared online for videos and memes.

How do you use the pew pew sound in a video?

Place the sound exactly when a toy, finger gun, or character appears to fire, so the visual and audio line up. Keep the volume clear but not overpowering, use one or two hits per joke, and pair it with a quick cut or zoom for effect.
