The famously robotic staccato laugh of NBA star Kawhi Leonard from his 2018 Toronto Raptors introduction, replayed in memes whenever something is only mildly funny.

This is the awkward, staccato chuckle of NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard, the normally stone-faced player best known for saying almost nothing at all. The laugh comes out as a choppy, machine-like series of ha's, more robot than human, and it lands funnier precisely because it comes from someone so famously serious. Hearing it feels like watching a serious athlete glitch in real time, which is why it works so well as a punchline. The laugh is short, instantly recognisable and perfectly suited to moments that are funny in an off, uncomfortable way.

Kawhi Leonard unveiled his now-legendary laugh at his introductory press conference with the Toronto Raptors in September 2018, shortly after being traded from the San Antonio Spurs. Asked about his quiet reputation, he insisted he was a fun guy and then demonstrated the point with a strange, staccato laugh that the room and the internet immediately latched onto. The clip spread across sports Twitter, meme pages and soundboards within days, and it resurfaced throughout Toronto's 2019 championship run. It endures as the definitive meme laugh of the NBA, proof that the league's most stoic star can steal a moment with one chuckle.

Where is Kawhi's laugh from?

It comes from Kawhi Leonard's introductory press conference with the Toronto Raptors in September 2018. After being traded from the San Antonio Spurs, he said he was a fun guy and demonstrated his staccato laugh, which instantly became a meme.

Why is Kawhi Leonard's laugh so funny?

It is funny because Leonard is famously silent and serious on the court, so the robotic, choppy ha-ha-ha caught everyone off guard. The contrast between his stone-faced persona and the glitchy laugh is what made it go viral.

How do people use Kawhi's laugh in memes?

Creators drop it after jokes that land awkwardly, over deadpan reaction faces, or on edits of robots and malfunctioning characters. The short staccato rhythm makes it ideal for quick cutaway punchlines in videos and streams.
