Über diesen Sound

The classic Mario death sound from the Super Mario games, used in memes, fail edits and gaming clips when someone loses, falls or gets instantly defeated.

This clip is the familiar Mario death sound effect: a short, descending game-over style sting that instantly signals failure. It is brief, punchy and easy to recognize, so it lands fast in edits without covering dialogue for long. Creators use it to underline a missed jump, a bad play, a sudden knockout or any moment where a character completely wipes out. Because the sound is tied so strongly to Mario, it gives even ordinary fails a retro video game feel and makes the moment read as an instant loss.

This sound is associated with Mario death scenes from the Super Mario series and became a common shorthand for failure in online editing. It spread widely through gaming montages, meme compilations and short-form videos because viewers recognize it in a split second. Its lasting appeal comes from that instant connection: one short cue tells the audience that the player lost, the plan failed or the moment ended badly, without needing any extra setup.
