Über diesen Sound

The Sonic 3 1-Up sound is the bright three-second extra-life jingle from the 1994 game, used in edits to celebrate wins, saves, and lucky breaks.

This clip is the compact 1-Up jingle heard in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when the player gains an extra life. It opens with a fast, sparkling run of game-like notes and resolves in a bright celebratory flourish, all within roughly three seconds. The quick rise and clean finish make the reward instantly readable, even when placed over footage unrelated to the game. In videos, it adds a playful sense of achievement, turning a narrow escape, clever move, collected item, or small personal victory into a classic Sonic-style success moment.

The cue comes from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, released for the Sega Genesis in 1994. In the game, the short jingle marks the familiar extra-life reward, connecting it to the series’ long-running 1-Up mechanic. As gameplay clips, retrospectives, and gaming memes circulated online, the cue became useful beyond its original context. Its brevity makes it easy to recognize without interrupting dialogue, while its upbeat resolution still communicates a reward, recovery, or bonus to players familiar with classic Sonic games.
